Dr. Ching Jyh Shieh moved to the United States from his native Taiwan in 1968 to study at the University of Michigan. In May of 2006, Dr. Shieh was arrested amid accusations of corruption and extra-judicially detained (without charge) for 59 days, during which he was held in conditions in violation of international human rights standards.
